Northampton, Massachusetts
The Northampton Arts Council voted unanimously to commission an update to the iconic Masonic Street mural in the event of a Hillary Clinton victory. The mural, known for its dour and earnest female representations, was completed in 1980 and restored in 2003. It is widely considered due for a refresh.
Tofu Curtain attained exclusive access to two concepts for the redesign (see photos). In each, various stock characters have been updated with Hillary logos, while Ms. Clinton herself looks on approvingly. A smiling woman in contemporary casual attire is included in both versions. This marks the first time that characters in the mural will be represented as happy and upbeat, an historic milestone in itself. The Council is expected to make a final design decision after the election.
